Hewitt Place Townhomes
In June 2010, IHI completed its acquisition and preservation of the Hewitt Place Townhomes. This property provides large, three-bedroom apartments for low-income families and was showing wear and tear after 16 years in action. IHI upgraded unit interiors, prioritizing green elements such as low Volatile Organic Compound paint and Energy Star appliances and lighting fixtures. We replaced one-third of the lawn with native plants and installed "smart" irrigation controllers that adjust irrigation based on rainfall, which will help us conserve water use by 30-40%. We replaced windows, roofs, and siding and each of the eleven buildings received a fresh coat of paint. IHI installed new equipment at three on-site playgrounds and converted one of the apartments into community space where IHI will provide resident services and youth activities.
