Elizabeth and her family have lived in IHI housing for more than 5 years. While in her junior year at Sam Barlow High School, she decided she'd like to participate in the school Track and Field team. Elizabeth's goal in joining the team was not only to become more involved in extracurricular activities at her school, but also to increase her level of physical fitness. When it became clear that Elizabeth's parents weren't going to be able to afford to buy her the necessary gear/clothing for her to participate, she approached IHI's on-site Resident Services Coordinator to inquire about assistance. Thanks to a grant from the Rose E. Tucker Foundation to support IHI's Healthy Generations Program, IHI was able to purchase running shoes and the necessary gear to allow Elizabeth to successfully participate on the team.

Elizabeth says "Practices are going well and the girls are really nice and helpful, which totally makes me feel a lot more comfortable and more motivated. I'm really excited!"
