Jessica is a single mother who works full time. For years she has driven an unreliable car that has created a lot of chaos and unpredicted financial expense in her life. Knowing that her current car was on its way out, Jessica approached IHI's Resident Services Coordinator about a resource called Ways to Work, which she had previously read about in an IHI community newsletter. Ways to Work provides working parents who are unable to get funds elsewhere with loans to purchase, repair or refinance a car. IHI staff and Jessica got together to discuss program eligibility, loan requirements, and reviewed her finances to ensure this program was a good fit for her. IHI staff then helped her apply for the program and Jessica was able to purchase a reliable, safe, and affordable car! Now she has a dependable way to get to work and fewer unexpected car repairs, resulting in better household stability for Jessica and her son.
