Rosa
Rosa has lived in IHI housing for a year and a half. Originally from Cuba, Rosa left her country of 19 years. "I wanted to be free," she explains. "Life was very hard." Before settling into IHI housing, Rosa was living at a downtown shelter and had been in and out of housing for 25 years. IHI's resident services staff have helped Rosa overcome her longstanding language barrier by providing her a refurbished computer and software that teaches English as a second language. Rosa is also a regular participant in onsite workshops. Rosa is thankful for the support she has received and describes resident services staff as "so helpful and nice." In speaking of her life today, she says, "I feel good and happy. Now that I have a computer, it's even better!" Rosa's vibrant personality and positive attitude really light up the building and inspire her fellow residents.
