Opened in September 2012, The Modern Rich Apartments brought 34 thoughtfully designed studio units to Portland’s Old Town neighborhood. Originally built in 1905 as a railroad hotel, this historic building has served generations of Portlanders and now offers affordable housing for people who work, study, and live in the heart of downtown.
The building’s efficient urban studios blend a sleek, modern aesthetic with original architectural details, creating a unique and comfortable living experience. A central light well was extended from the second floor down to the ground, transforming it into a small courtyard that offers outdoor space for residents and access to new ground-floor homes.
