The historic Merwyn Hotel was reborn in 2021 as a 40-unit apartment building, comprised of 36 affordable and 4 market-rate apartments. The building offers studio and one-bedroom apartments with modern amenities, including dishwashers, energy-efficient appliances, and hardwood floors.
Unique loft-style ground-floor units feature spiral staircases. The Merwyn is conveniently located in the heart of downtown Astoria, close to restaurants, shops and services.

33 units for households earning up to 60% of area median income (LIHTC)
3 units for households earning up to 30% of area median income (LIHTC), of which 10 units are Project Based Vouchers (PBV) to improve housing affordability

IHI completed its historic renovation of The Merwyn Apartments in January 2021. These 40 new studio and one-bedroom homes provide critical workforce and affordable housing in Astoria, Oregon. IHI worked closely with the City of Astoria, its Downtown Historic District Association, and the broader Astoria community to bring this historic building back to life.
The Merwyn is located in the heart of downtown Astoria, adjacent to both City Hall and the public library. IHI restored many historic elements of this beautiful building, including original hardwood floors, vertical grain fir windows, historic corridors, and the historic lobby.
